Just a few weeks ago, I hosted a back-to-school party with some friends (and a few who couldn't make it) and wanted to share how I organized it. I will take any opportunity to host a great event so this was fun! There are a lot of kids so I knew I would have to find a space outside of my home to accommodate us. I did a little research and was able to rent a local park shelter for half of a day for only $25. If you want to host an event (birthday party, special event, etc.) I can't recommend checking out your local parks enough. The space is, most of the time, affordable, and most parks have playgrounds to keep the kids entertained while the adults chat.
Now for the food... I had a simple menu for the kids because I knew they would be running to and from the park to grab a snack. Here is what I served and make sure to check the bottom of the post for all the photos I took (although I forgot to take pics of the food spread).
Strawberries, blueberries & oranges
Carrots & cucumbers with ranch dressing
Individually wrapped veggie straws
Individually wrapped fruit chews
Animal crackers with funfetti dip
Cupcakes
Honest Co. juice boxes
Decorations might be my favorite part of hosting an event...so here is a breakdown of what I purchased. I recommend everything I used as the quality was great and easy to assemble.
Back-to-school balloons
Tablecloths (from Walmart)
Party favors: I placed a pencil and pack of crayons beside each plate for the kids to take home
Chapter books: The books I stacked up for decorations were books we already had at home that added some color to the tables
A few more details...
I had an activity table with stickers, dot markers & paper where they could make art.
The balloon arch was great for pictures but I did not have enough balloons. That was my first arch using the kit so next time I will know to use double the balloons I did. Live, laugh & always blow up more balloons than you anticipate you'll need. ;)
I made the name tags by using a banner I found at Hobby Lobby. I removed the string and it made the cutest name tags.
I hope this post inspires you to throw a party and get creative! Not pictured below: the kiddos who I am not going to show below just in case their parents don't want them to be on the internet.
