It has been a little over 8 months since I last wrote here on my blog. I couldn't believe it when I saw my last post dated from October 2023 right after our trip to Ireland. The past six-plus months of my life have been difficult as I have had some unexpected things happen in my life. However, I am slowly starting to feel more like myself and as a writer, I love sharing my stories, life, and other helpful tips to encourage others. So what better way to jump back into the blogging world than by sharing my morning routine?
Truthfully, I am not a morning person by nature, but I have been slowly turning myself into a morning person. I think my current hatred of early mornings stems from the depression I have battled for the past six months and all those early mornings trudging off to school for twelve years. Nonetheless, here is what I do every morning to start my day off on a positive note.
I wake up and go straight to the coffee. Depending on my mood, I will either make a pot of coffee or make a coffee using my Nespresso machine. If it is a hot summer afternoon, I will drink an iced coffee. I love the premade Califia Farms iced coffee (dark roast) or I will make a Nespresso and pour it over ice. Here are the items I use to make coffee at home that tastes like coffee shop coffee. I also eat breakfast and try to do so before coffee.

Read morning Devotions + a liturgy to start my day! There is truly no better start to my day than reading the Bible and praying. I read the ESV bible (love the linen cover one) and then finish off my reading with the Every Moment Holy Liturgy. I also love to journal using the ESV Illuminated Scripture Journal. I have linked these items if you are in the market and you can find those by clicking on the words below.
Complete my skincare, and oral care, and get workout clothes on. I take my skincare and oral health seriously so I will have to devote another post to that. It is not a lengthy process though because I don't have time for that. :)
Get outside and move my body. Movement has been a very important part of my day for a long time. I love a good morning walk with my kids before we get our day started. Additionally, I aim to do a low-impact workout about 2-3 times a week and anywhere from 7K to 10K steps a day. It is a bonus that exercise is good for mental health too. If it is too cold or rainy, I pull out my walking pad which was a great investment.
Make a to-do list for my day (kids + home) + check my work tasks. Besides being a mom & wife, I am an author/writer, (you can read my latest book here) and I work for Kidding Around Media doing a lot of writing, content editing/checking, and more. They are an incredible company and I love my job. I'd love for you to follow along on Kidding Around Greenville for tons of fun content and travel content.
This is a typical morning for me. When school starts back in the fall (I homeschool) I will obviously devote the large majority of the second part of my morning to schooling my kids. But this routine still works well for me! If you're interested in creating your own morning routine then I suggest sitting down and taking inventory of your life and mornings. What is important to you first thing in the morning? Do you want to get outside first thing? Drink coffee? Start cleaning? Take a look at what you need to accomplish each morning and then build a routine around that. It won’t go perfectly at first, but once you see what allows you to thrive, you’ll start a routine that you won’t have to think about anymore.
But my biggest question for you today is… are you a morning person or a night owl?
If you enjoyed this post, I would love for you to follow along, share, and find encouragement here.
