When Life Brings Pain & Suffering

Updated: Jan 27

when life brings pain and suffering

Are we ever the same after we get our hearts broken in this life? It is a question I have tearfully brought to God in prayer more times than I can count. From what I have experienced, I believe that life brings pain and pain produces scars that don't ever fully fade. Sure, the bleeding stops and the scar grows less noticeable over a period of time, but it never vanishes completely. You may reach the place where you can think of your pain and not shed a single tear. When a reminder of where you’ve been and what you’ve lost triggers you, it may not feel like a gut punch anymore. But the scar still reminds you of the valleys God has carried you through. So no, I don’t think we are ever truly the same after we’ve experienced heartbreak, loss, and grief.

But as I have sat in the ashes and broken pieces of myself over the past year of my life and witnessed Christ tenderly put me back together, one jagged piece at a time, I do believe He uses our pain for a purpose. To show us that He is our Sustainer. To remind us that with Him all things are possible even restoring all we’ve lost. To remind us that Heaven will be sweet and we’ll never feel the sting of pain again. To bring Him glory as the lost souls around look at our lives and see a powerful Savior who restores, forgives, and loves us, and them, far more than we could ever imagine. And that He binds up our wounds for us even before we can barely muster up the strength to lift our heads and ask Him.

Whatever you're facing right now please know that I am praying for you. Keep moving onward, friend.
